Prepaid Credit Card

Prepaid Credit Card - A prepaid credit card can help you in many different ways, over the standard credit cards or secured credit cards. By using a prepaid credit card you can keep better track of how much credit you have remaining and how much you have spent. Most prepaid credit cards offer low or interest free rates on their credit cards and only require a small fee (usually 10-20 dollars) for the initial setup of your account. There are many different prepaid credit card programs available, which you can find online as well as in various drugstores and grocery or convenience stores.

Using a prepaid credit card is simple. First you purchase the card from either a local merchant or via an online credit institution. Let's say you want a prepaid credit card with $100 credit. If this is your first time you would pay something like $120.00 (some places offer their cards cheaper but the average prepaid credit card is $20). You would then receive a personalized prepaid credit card with a credit limit of $100. Once you have used up your credit you will need to put more money on the card, if you plan on continuing to use the card.

You also have the option of canceling out the card, by notifying the credit institution that you do not plan on adding money to the card. Each individual credit card issuer has their own rules and regulations regarding the cancellation of their prepaid credit card, so you should check with the individual credit institution to find out what their policies are.

A prepaid credit card is pretty much the same as an ordinary credit card, and is acceptable by most merchants, both online and local. However, you will find that there are some merchants who will not accept a prepaid credit card. Usually this would be for a payment plan where a certain amount is to be deducted from your credit card each month.

With a prepaid credit card there is less of a guarantee (for the merchant) that there will be funds available on the card from month to month. Another instance where your prepaid credit card may not be acceptable is when a merchant offers a free trial for a product our service, where the credit card is not build for 30 days or some other length of time. In such situations a merchant may require only a secured or regular credit card.

For the most part, however, you will find that your prepaid credit card works just like any other credit card and can be used to purchase things online, pay for a night out, even book rooms and flights. Owning a prepaid credit card is a pretty good idea, even if you already own other normal credit cards, because with a prepaid credit card there are no surprises. When you pay with your prepaid credit card you know you have the money to cover it because you already have covered it.
