Debt Collector
Debt Collector - If you’re being contacted by a debt collector, don’t
worry, there are still some things that you can do if your debt is too much for
you to pay. One of these things that you can do is go to a credit and debt
counsellor. If you go to a credit and debt counsellor, it’s possible that they
can tell you what you need to do to be able to pay off your current debt and
avoid getting into future debts.
The most important thing to realize about any debt collector is that their job
requires that they’re able to actually collect on debts. For this reason,
it’s not in their best interests to push you to going into bankruptcy. In
fact, most companies would prefer to work with you so that you can pay off your
debts instead of going into bankruptcy. This is good for you, since declaring
bankruptcy will make it very difficult for you to improve your credit rating, or
receive any more loans in the future.
The other thing that you should keep in mind when it comes to the people who are
collecting your debt is that there are laws that apply to debt collection. What
this means is that if you read up on the laws and find out what they are
you’ll realize that there are some things that you don’t have to deal with
from your debt collection agency.
For example, a debt collector is not allowed to harass you, no matter how much
money you owe. If you’re being contacted repeatedly by a debt collection
agency, and you want them to stop, all you need to do is send them a letter to
stop contacting you. The agency is then required by law to stop contacting you
on the matter.
The other thing that you should make sure of when you’re being contacted by a
debt collector is that you know what you owe, to whom, and why. The debt
collection agency is not allowed to use any false information when attempting to
collect a debt from you. This includes, but is not limited to, claiming that you
owe more or less than you actually owe. If a debt collection agency does any of
this to you, then you should seek legal help.
